2013 Annual KCCP Healthcare Comm. Panel Discussion and Dinner took placed on April 27th 3:00 pm at Princeton University Hospital Education Center. Hue-Sun Ahn (PHD), a psychologist, gave the first lecture titled “Midlife Crisis.” She said, “Midlife crisis became one of the important issues in Korean Family recently,” suggesting several ways to overcome it smartly. In the second lecture, Nicole Schrader, MD FACS, talked about the increase in popularity of cosmetic surgery in Korea, fueled by K-pop music. She explained treatments for the aging face with diverse examples, especially for Asian.
Last lecture was on “Advances in Radiation Oncology” by John C. Baumann, MD, a board certified in radiation oncology. He talked about the incredible development in accuracy and effectiveness in radiation therapy.
The KCCP Healthcare event, about 45 people attended, was preceded by the opening remarks of Dr. Peter Yi. He mentioned that the future event will be improved with different format and topics of the lectures to increase more participation from both young and old generations. . The lectures was followed by the time for question and answer and a dinner with Korean food.

지난 4월 27일 오후 3시부터 6시까지 프린스턴 대학 병원 교육 센터에서KCCP (프린스턴 한인 공동체) 와 프린스턴 대학 병원이 공동 주최로 ‘건강 강좌 와 저녁 식사’ 행사가 열렸습니다. 40여명이 참가한 이번 행사는 안희선 심리학 박사가 자녀들이 분가한 이후 에 찾아오는 ‘중년의 위기’ 에 대해 첫번째 강의자로 나섰으며 두 번째 강의로는 동양인의 성형 수술에 대해 니콜 슈레더 바릴 박사가 발표했습니다. 마지막으로 세 번째 강의는 죤 바우만 박사가 최근에 눈부시게 발전한 암 치료 기술 을 소개하는 시간을 가졌습니다.
안희선 심리학 교수는 중년의 위기는 일반 미국인에만 찾아오는 것으로 인식되었던 과거와는 달리 요즈음 한인 가정에도 매우 중요한 문제로 떠오르고 있다며 이를 극복하기 위한 여러 방법들을 제시했습니다. 두번 째 강사인 바릴 박사는 현재 한국의 K-Pop 영향으로 한국의 성형 문화 또한 세계가 관심을 갖게 되었다고 전제하고 동양인의 성형 수술의 경향을 조목 조목 설명하였습니다. 그리고 바우만 박사는 10년 전만해도 상상하지 못했다며 암 치료 방법이 컴퓨터를 비롯한 테크놀로지의 엄청난 발전으로 인해 놀랍게 계발되었다며 그 정확도와 효율성을 설명하였습니다.
이어 열린 무료로 제공된 저녁 식사에 참석한 한인들은 정말 필요한 정보를 얻게 되어 매우 기쁘고 좋은 식사를 마련한 주최측에 감사를 표했습니다. 이번 행사를 주관한 피터 리 박사는 매년 해오는 ‘ KCCP건강 강좌 와 저녁 식사’ 행사가 자칫 노인들의 건강문제를 다루는 모임으로 생각하는 경향이 있다며 이는 대단히 잘못된 것으로 다음해부터는 어린이나 청소년들, 젊은 부부들의 참여를 유도할 수 있도록 좀 더 다양한 프로그램을 만들겠다고 말했습니다.
